Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Tottenham extended their winning streak in away games in the top division and delivered Everton their initial loss at their new home.

Everton were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after 133 years at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader Van de Ven struck twice from corners in the opening 45 minutes to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before Pape Matar Sarr - assisted by former Toffees attacker Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

The Everton defender believed he had equalized the scores a short while after Van de Ven's first goal, glancing a bullet header past the Spurs keeper from an set-piece.

Beto, meanwhile, missed a number of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a series of fine stops to ensure the London club went five matches on the road unbeaten in the English top flight.

But the video assistant referee stepped in, advising the match official to review the score on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that the winger and Iliman Ndiaye were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's side up to third in the division, a handful of points off north London rivals and table-toppers the Gunners.

The Merseyside club remain in 14th position and are half a dozen points ahead of the relegation zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in role at each end of the field

After a uninspiring midweek performance in the European competition against Monaco, where they managed a only attempts on goal, Frank chose the French striker in attack instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was unable to make much of an impact before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the field, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the final outcome.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an attacking force to be feared.

Tottenham's opening strike came from a well-worked corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the face of goal for an free Van de Ven to head home.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's unavailability - notched his second in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to head home.

Van de Ven was equally impressive in defensive duties, partnering effectively with Kevin Danso as the pair handled excellently with the 34 crosses thrown their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Everton lacking striker's instinct

The club's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the novelty may have faded somewhat and supporters flocked to the gates after the midfielder's final goal for Spurs.

The end in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a massive worry for the manager, but their striker situation are.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised centre-forwards - had netted only one league goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, even with having space and opportunity to reposition for a simpler attempt that would have tested the keeper.

Barry, too, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a shortage of chance. Most of the home side's attacks came through Grealish and the forward, who tirelessly whipped dangerous crosses into the Tottenham box.

The Toffees: Moyes' men travel to the Stadium of Light in the top flight on early November at 20:00 GMT.

Tottenham: The London club travel to Newcastle's ground on late October for their next round Carabao Cup match against Newcastle.
